Feeling spiritual but not religious?
Then this is probably the place for you. We know each person is on his or her own spiritual journey, so we look for ways for each individual to connect with the Spirit of God. To have our souls and spirits grow is always an inside job, so every Sunday we talk about different ways for you to make that connection happen. We invite you and your family to join us. Why? Because the spiritual journey is essential (and it’s fun to take the trip with other people who see the world in much the same way you do). We’re big on the spiritual connection but we don’t insist on a lot of religious dogma.
About our youth
We have an active Youth Ministry for children of all ages. Bring your kids on in and watch them come alive as they explore their hearts and minds:
- We have a Unity Parents and Caregiver Group. They meet the fourth Sunday of each month after the service to support each other and plan fun outings. Childcare is provided for that, too.
- We hold a one-week Summer Day Camp in August every year that’s fun and exciting!
- There are Regional and National conferences for kids 10 and up too.
- The curriculum is important but we also know that safety counts, so we conduct background checks on our volunteers working with youth.
What we believe
- We believe that God is spirit, the loving source of all that is. God is the one power, all good, and everywhere present.
- We believe that Jesus expressed his Divine potential and tried to teach all humankind how to find and express their potential, too.
- We believe that all human beings are inherently good by their very nature. We understand they don’t always live that way or express their lives in that way, but the potential is there for all of us.
- We believe in the power of positive thinking because we know that everything has its beginning in thought.
- Prayer and meditation are central to what we do because they are tools that heighten the connection to the Spirit of God.
- We believe that it’s not enough to know about these spiritual principles—we need to live them, too!
What we don’t believe
- We don’t believe people are born in original sin. We believe people are born in original blessing.
- We don’t believe the Bible is the only Holy Book around. We love the Bible, but we also respect the sacred documents from other faiths, too.
- We don’t believe that God is a white male with a long, white beard sitting on a throne somewhere up in the sky. Instead we feel God is paradoxical and can never be fully explained. God is beyond gender, beyond race, and beyond time and space. God is a complex combination of personal and principle, law and grace.
- We do not believe in a devil. We do believe that the ego can sometimes dominate our thinking and actions at times, but it doesn’t come from some “person” with horns and a tail.
- We do not believe that heaven and hell are physical places. Instead, we think they are states of consciousness and ways of thinking and being.
- We do not believe you should follow us without careful consideration. We will never ask you to check your brains at the door. We love the power of faith, but at the same time we want thinking people who question and challenge.
